A BIT ABOUT CANDACE LEILANI

Behind the Words

Growing up, I had trouble staying focused in school as my mind traveled to another place, bringing to life stories that needed to be written. Writing down my thoughts brought about many short stories (or at least potential ideas of short stories) and gave me the creative edge I put towards my work, project collaborations and brainstorming sessions.

IU Southeast has given me many experiences and training I would have not originally been privy to outside of college. I would like to think my writing would reflect my creativity and different perspective on life as I challenge myself to find the true and real perspective of what is going on in our own backyard.

With my past opportunities to travel, I have seen the best and worst in both people and their situation which has only caused me to want to write for those who's voice is not being heard. I hope to bring about stories that not only give the reader a chance to see the world as it truly is, but also feel compelled to do something about it.

My experience may not be "top notch" compared to others, but it is my personality and drive to find stories that gives me the edge to be a journalist. My love for writing and reading has caused my hopes of being part of a magazine, newspaper or other journalistic corporation soar. I can bring a compelling story to any reader and provoke thought, whether it is through a video, an article, photo or sound clip.

About Me: Bio

"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."

Robert Frost
